The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
The passage of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse is one of the more vague passages of the bible. It covers an area of time that it yet to come – the end of the world. It discusses the time when the wrath of God will descend upon the world in the form of the horsemen, bringing forth death, famine, war, and conquest. To the present, the horsemen and the message of destruction they have brought have been connected to many pieces of literature, figures in sports, and movies that reflect on the horsemens’ powers and seemingly invincibility.
Example 1
In the bible, the four horsemen discussed in chapter six of the book of revelation are considered to be mysterious, impenetrable, and ruthless. With their powers over conquest, war, famine, and even death itself, they are seemingly unstoppable. In the early 1900’s, the world began comparing four extremely talented football players to the four horsemen as quartet of Notre Dame players began dominating every football game they played, leading their team to victory continuously. This biblical illusion demonstrates the interpretation people have found of the mysterious horsemen and how they seem relate them to the things that seem powerful, for as the four horsemen spread the wrath of God with their strengths of war, famine, conquest, and death, the Notre Dame horsemen spread the popularity of Notre Dame football with their skills, determination, passion for the game, and dedication to their team.
